Taser unveiled another interesting and amazing piece of technology that promises to drop everyone to the ground  in a given area.
This device is the Taser Shockwave. It fires multiple Taser cartridges from a distance to control riots.
It is designed to create a barrier that can hit a target up to 35 feet away and can pierce through thick clothing.
"The TASER Shockwave system is the first and only Electronic Control Device designed for area denial,” Brian Beckwith, vice president of TASER International, said."[It is] a completely scalable solution that is designed to provide a standoff capability of up to 100 meters.
Originally designed for the US Service member in order to combat the threat of suicide bombers, the TASER Shockwave allowed the operator to remain out of the environment of these threats."

The cartridges are tethered by 25-foot wires, which can be fired from a distance of up to 100 meters in a 20-degree arc.
It consists of 36 Tasers in two row.The Tasers can be deployed all at once, or by row.
Each cartridge fires two probes at different angles, meaning a full launch of the Shockwave sends 12 TASER darts traveling at 160 feet per second.


It provides a barrage fire, area saturation capability.
Each cartridge is capable of delivering the same incapacitative effects as those of the X26.
The Shockwave system is scalable and versatile allowing the operator to custom build fields of coverage. TASER Shockwave devices may be linked laterally, stacked vertically, daisy chained or any combination of these in order to provide the desired coverage.

The Shockwave is fired from a handheld remote device. this device includes trigger button, a safety switch, indicator lights and a "re-energizer" button which can recharge the launched probes multiple times.

It has the following features:
  • TASER Shockwave controls a door entrance or other target zone
  • Shockwave can be attached to a police ,military van and the VIP vehicles.
  • The TASER Shockwave system can be deployed in virtually any terrain.

A  recent study conducted by Dr. William Bozeman ,associate professor of emergency medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center,suggested that Taser shots to the chest are no more dangerous than those delivered to other body locations. Dr. Bozeman and his colleagues reviewed 1201 cases of real –life Taser uses by law enforcement agancies. It was found that 22 percent cases involved the device’s probes Landing on the suspect’s chest and delivering an electrical charge that may have traveled across the heart area. None of the suspects with Taser shots to the chest were found to have heart-related complications, and they did not have a higher injury rate than suspects with Taser shots elsewhere on the body.

Tests conducted by the Cleveland clinic found that Tasers did not interfere with pacemakers and implanted defibrillators. Any modern pacemaker is designed to withstand electrical defibrillator pulses that are hundreds of times stronger than the Taser's output. The Taser current of 0.3 joules is well below the 10-50 joule threshold above which cardiac ventricular fibrillation can occur.
This study shows that Tasers are safe and effective and pose minimal risk of injury.

A major problem encountered while using stun guns was that they were deadly for the heart patients. Atleast one person in a thousand has a pacemaker. They are extremely vulnerable to the threats posed by stun guns. The pacemakers are busted by the high currents of stun guns and people die on the spot.

Why is being Tasered better than getting shocked with a million volt stun gun?

In today’s society, individual safety is an ever-growing concern. The high crime rates and assaults in the major cities resulted in  the engineering and development of personal defence weapons such as Tasers and stun guns.

Tasers and stun guns  both are non-lethal electronic self-defence weapons. These devices are reported about all the time. So much so that an average person gets confused and uses these words interchangeably. Though both of them are used for personal safety, they are not the same.

Stun guns are close proximity self defence devices that transmit high voltage electricity to stop an attacker. Touching a person with the prongs on the stun gun leads to pain, shock, muscular contraction, loss of balance and immobilization .

A Taser is an electronic control device that uses electric current to disrupt muscle control to stop an attacker. TASER devices can be used both close and far range.it shoots two metal probe darts which have a range of 15 feet. When these probes come in contact with the target’s body or clothing, they deliver an electrical signal into his neural network. This causes involuntary muscle contractions and impairment of motor skills.



Some major differences are:
  •  Wattage levelThe stun gun can transmit voltage  in the range of 20,000 and 1,000,000. The usage of stun gun varies between 7 and 14 W.
          The Taser can transmit up to 50,000 V with the usage of 18 W electricity. 
          Stun guns disrupt only the nervous system whereas a Taser affects not only the nervous       system but also the muscular system.


  • Effectiveness: A Taser is 100 percent successful in taking down an attacker whereas a stun gun is only 86 percent successful. This means that people recover more quickly from the effects of the stunner and if the attacker is high on drugs he may not feel anything at all.


  • Distance is another important factor in making the right choice.The stun gun must be held directly to the attacker’s body. This could be dangerous as getting too close to the attacker might harm the person.The advantage of using a taser is that it has an effective range up to 15 feet.


  • Price is another difference. The Taser has more advantages compared to the stun gun therefore it has a high price.  There are additional options that come with the guns including flashlights, laser sights and more. These are effective ways to immobilize a man temporarily. The size varies as well; both of these weapons are small enough to be carried in a hand bag or a pocket.

One must know the differences between stun guns and Tasers so that a right decision could be made while purchasing a device for one’s own personal safety and protection.

How Effective are Tasers when it comes to controling Wildlife?

Introduction

TASER is an electroshock weapon sold by Taser International. It uses electrical current to disrupt voluntary control of muscles causing "neuromuscular incapacitation".  Someone struck by a Taser experiences stimulation of his or her sensory nerves and motor nerves, resulting in strong involuntary muscle contractions. Tasers do not rely only on pain compliance, except when used in Drive Stun mode, and are thus preferred by some law enforcement over non-Taser stun guns and other electronic control weapons.There are two main police models, the M26 and X26. Both come with accessories including a laser sight and optional mounted digital video camera that can record in low-light situations. Taser International sells a civilian model called the C2. On 27 July 2009, Taser introduced the X3, capable of firing three times without reload.




The Taser fires two small dart-like electrodes, which stay connected to the main unit by conductive wire as they are propelled by small compressed nitrogen charges similar to some air gun or paintball marker propellants[clarification needed]. The air cartridge contains a pair of electrodes and propellant for a single shot and is replaced after each use. There are a number of cartridges designated by range, with the maximum at 35 feet (10.6 m). Cartridges available to non-law enforcement consumers are limited to 15 feet (4.5 m). The electrodes are pointed to penetrate clothing and barbed to prevent removal once in place. Earlier Taser models had difficulty in penetrating thick clothing, but newer versions (X26, C2) use a "shaped pulse" that increases effectiveness in the presence of barriers.
Tasers primarily function by creating neuromuscular incapacitation; the devices interrupt the ability of the brain to control the muscles in the body. This creates an immediate and unavoidable incapacitation that is not based on pain and cannot be overcome. Once the electricity stops flowing the subject immediately regains control of his body. Most subjects after being Tazed once will comply so as to avoid being Tazed a second time.[citation needed]
Tasers also provide a safety benefit to police officers as they have a greater deployment range than batons, pepper spray or empty hand techniques. This allows police to maintain a safe distance.
